Naivety: My Downfall

The clock is ticking
I can feel the tears
It's been only hours
Though it feels like years

I feel I should trust you
To an extent I actually do
It's the others I don't trust
They're always all over you

I know I'm your girl
You would never hurt me
For years we've been friends
But my side you fail to see

You've always been there
Standing at my side
Protecting my innocence
Under your wing I could hide

But now you are
What you protect me from
I must now protect myself
From you and heartache to come.
